The lens you are using has some really nice bokeh for shots like this one. You did a good job with your goals on this image.

… Appreciate that Alan. I am using almost exclusively the forty year old Nikon 105/2.5 AI. I am determined to get the best out of it- with modern technology and software. Using the Nikon D200 right now. And, actually just ordered a Nikon D610 to try it with a more modern CMOS sensor.

Good glass is almost timeless - sensors/camera bodies come and go. The bokeh comes from the lens and this one does a good job with it. Modern lenses do a good job with auto-focus features and image stability in some cases but the doesn't really sound like a concern you are trying to address with your photography.
