Mandarin Duck, Aix galericulata

Very near to my home is a small nature reserve run by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. As well as the normal British birds there is a fairly large congregation of feral Mandarin Ducks. I think they escaped from a wildfowl collection many years ago and have now colonised lots of areas of the UK. Very nice to see, but they must be eating something which will have strained the local wildlife. Another mistake by Man

A quick question though, should I flip the 2nd and 3rd image so they look from left to right or do you think it doesn't matter?

Doesn't matter that much to me unless your goal is to always present these images as a set. I love the details in the first one and I am guessing you do as well since you are using it for your avatar

I think #2 and 3 look best as you presented them facing to the left. I tried to imagine them facing to the right and they didn't look right in my mind. So to me what you posted is the best for those two.

When I saw your title my first thought was, wait... so there really is a Mandarin duck? I am a big fan of the Marvel super hero movies and the Mandarin is an evil character and is in both Iron Man 3 and recently Shang-Chi. I had to jar my head to remember that Mandarin really is a bird, though sounding from what you said, it could be an evil bird in the UK, which for me would be fitting.

I really like your images of it, it kind of reminds me of the Wood duck with how colorful it is.

I agree it's a beautiful duck and I think the female is as beautiful in a subdued way.
