M42 The Great Orion Nebula in Narrowband (HSO)

M42 The Great Orion Nebula, another target I wanted to reshoot with my current equipment.
This target is a mosaic consisting of 4 panels and was shot using narrowband filters to create an HSO-palette image. 177 x 180s sub frames @-10C were shot over 2 nights for a total integration time of about 9hrs

Wow! So much depth this Carlos! love all those strands of gases floating like smoke in space.

I was looking over your equipment, that's really cool, you have your own observatory. Bortle 5 isn't the worst, but it's not quite dark skies either, so great job in those conditions.

Really wonderful work - so much extra detail in this familiar object it looks like something new :)

How are you liking the 10 inch reflector? Do you have to spend time frequently on collimation? What is the backfocus? I have been starting to consider some longer focal length OTAs and big reflectors do seem to get nice results.

Cheers Mike, much appreciated! The 10" is such a light bucket but as you say collimation can be time-consuming at the start but once it's dialled in it only takes a couple of minutes to check and adjust. I don't check it as often as I should though haha. The backfocus for my gear is 55mm. Bang for your buck as they say. I'd highly recommend the 10"

All very good to know. Unfortunately, for my setup I might end up needing more than 55mm backfocus. Certainly if I wanted to use the ONAG, but maybe also if I didn't. I'm still in the preliminary stages of doing some OTA trades though, so this is all good info. I certainly do like the wonderful results from a scope like this, especially in the skilled hands of someone like yourself :)
