I went out to Patchogue which is my local town trying to get a shot for the weekly contest. Here are the three I consider the better ones from that day!

And BTW all done with a kit lens (Canon 18-135). I'm going on a cruise and want to travel light camera wise, so I'm trying to see if this lens will cut it or not. It's hard to judge this lens when my go to is 16-35 F4L .
as always all C&C welcomed

Nice set. If I had to go with just one lens it would be the 18-135. It might not be a match for the L glass but the expanded range would help a lot. In all honesty I would likely figure out some way to bring both - a 16-35mm F4L is not a large package by any means.

This was exactly the use case I had in mind when I bought a 24-105 f/4L in spite of it overlapping my favorite 24-70mm f/2.8L lens. The 24-105mm is a fraction of the weight of the 24-70mm and the expanded range of the 24-105mm makes it a workable walk around lens. No way the 24-105 can match the 24-70mm for speed and clarity but it is still a very nice piece of Canon glass.

Very nice set Joe! I am really liking that last one of the Barbershop!

As for having adequate light lenses for traveling. I did the same thing when I went to the Philippines. I didn't want to bring my big heavy 16-35mm. I had settled on the (Nikon) 24-120mm because of the reach and quality. It's not the lightest lens, but it's not too big. But I sill wanted a wider lens and a backup lens as I didn't want to have just one lens in case something went wrong with it. So for me with Nikon, I tested and then bought the 18-35mm. It's super small and lightweight and very sharp at 18mm. It's not so sharp at 35mm, but I figured I would just always shoot at 18mm and crop later if needed. Since I am used to shooting 14 or 16mm, I figured when 18mm wasn't wide enough I would just shoot a pano and stitch back at home.

I know you are shooting Canon, so my lenses won't apply, but the thought process was similar. :)
