Lilies of the Day

Day Lilies have some really cool blooms and come in a lot of different varieties but they are a pain to shoot since the blooms only last for a day and then shrivel up and look ugly. After a couple of days there are dead blooms everywhere around the new blooms that replace them and it can be hard to get a clean shot of the new blooms. Once I saw that I had some new blooms on some of our day lilies I ran over to some beds in front of a neighbor's house that has a lot of different varieties to grab some shots while the plants had clean fresh blooms. Here are a couple of those shots.

This first one is Hemerocallis 'Dream Blue'. Don't ask me why the name says blue while the petals are purple. All of the examples I could find images of were also purple.

This next one is Hemerocallis 'Faces of a Clown'

C&C always welcome.

Nice light for both of them. The first bloom probably saw better days as it appears on the wrong side of its peak.
Thanks Jameel - the Dream Blue bloom is actually a first day bloom but I did note the imperfections on the petal over to the left. These blooms are pretty much gone by the second day. I have some of the Faces of a Clown in my garden bed and by the second day they are totally wilted. I try to shoot the Daylily beds early in their bloom cycle because by day 4 or 5 all the dead blooms are in the way of the new day's blooms.
