Life on the Nile River

So I had taken a pause of prosessing vac pictures as I had a some life issues but all is good and I am back at it.

In 3 weeks in a place like this you can take a lot of pictures...

As a FYI, the population of Egypt is about 120m and 95% live on 6% of the land which borders the Nile. The rest of the land is a barron as can be

So as part of our trip, we spend 6 days on the Nile River. Here are just a few of the sights we saw with this wonderful adventure.

* Next Wed I will share a few bird pictures I was able to capture.

# 1 This could have been the Nativity Scene. Structures like this were very common, especcially on the West side of the Nile.
For some reason poorer people live on the west side and all the tourisum was on the east but thats changing with the cost and avalability of river front property.

# 2 The Nile was full of sail boats near the bigger cities

#3 My balloon trip was canceled due to high winds... I think I missed out

IMG_7431.jpg

#4 Where ever you look you can see antiquity of the past. To the left was the ship we sailed on

IMG_7437.jpg

# 5 The ships sundeck, ya, I know but somebody had to do it

IMG_7444.jpg

# 6 another radom old structure we saw from our balcony as we float by.

# 7 fisherman doing there thing like has been done for 1000's of years

IMG_7541.jpg

# 8. these structures seem to be calling out to me to stop and see. We did visit there the next day... more to follow on this site

# 9 more antiquity of long ago

IMG_7865.jpg

# 10 Kids being kids. We were told they are of the Nubian people from Sudan and are called "the river poeple" as they all make their living off the river and considerd one of the oldest cultures in Africa who over 1000's of years migrated north into Egypt

IMG_7901.jpg

# 11, another Nubian child. paddle boards were a thing, but they didn't use paddles

IMG_7931.jpg

# 12 More fisherman, not the best picture, but it captured the moment

IMG_7920.jpg

# 13 Another sailboat with a seagull in flight

IMG_7858.jpg

# 14,, last but not least. Again not the best image but how cool is this, and one of my favorites. In the background the Sahara desert

These shots are some of the best of your trip for my eyes. I really wanted to take more photos of the farms and ways of life away from the urban areas as they appear very similar to the images on the dynastic tombs. The kids on paddle boards in #10 and #11 are obvious exceptions but the fishermen in #7 and #12 are using watercraft and oars that are almost identical to what was in use a couple thousand years ago. The dhow in #13 is also an ancient design and the triangular lateen sails that are capable of sailing against the wind were in use out on the Indian Ocean millennia before the Mediterranean civilizations like the Greeks and Romans borrowed the technology and sailing techniques.

Amazing to see Ed.

One thing that struck me was the hot air balloons and how plain and drab they were. Here in the US, not only is every balloon colorful, but also very often of odd shapes and designs.

So cool to see those old buildings as well. To imagine some of them may be 1000 years old or more.
