Slocan is a small town in the Kootenays in central British Columbia. I am visiting my daughter and went for a walk along a rail to trail close to the Slocan river.
I was surprised at one point to get a glimpse of a large white bird out of the corner of my eye. I thought it might be a gull but it was completely out of place. Some time later I saw two birds out in a field some way off. They were both American Crows but one was white in colour. Unfortunately they never came close to me and took off flying. I was able to get a few shots but from a long way off so not great detail. Anyway it was an exciting thing to see.

Leucism (/ˈluːsɪzəm, -kɪz-/)[2][3][4] is a wide variety of conditions that result in partial loss of pigmentation in an animal—causing white, pale, or patchy coloration of the skin, hair, feathers, scales, or cuticles, but not the eyes.[4] It is occasionally spelled leukism. Some genetic conditions that result in a "leucistic" appearance include piebaldism, Waardenburg syndrome, vitiligo, Chédiak–Higashi syndrome, flavism, isabellinism, xanthochromism, axanthism, amelanism, and melanophilin mutations. Pale patches of skin, feathers, or fur (often referred to as "depigmentation") can also result from injury.[5]
