Lake Coffenburg is a small lake inside of Ft. Stevens State Park in Oregon at the mouth of the Columbia River.
When I first got to the Pacific NW I saw alders and assumed that these would be the local variant of aspen and couldn't wait for a good session for fall leaves. Every time I tried it seemed like I must have missed the peak for them until I finally figured it out (I'm slow sometimes) - alders change from green to dead and there is only a brief and rather nondescript period of a yellowish tint to the green before the leaves die and fall off. This image from this morning is about as close as you can get to alders in fall colors.
Leaves are falling off onto the park trails fairly quickly at this point. Happily there are other deciduous plants that will still offer a nice color show in the next few weeks.
C&C always welcome.
