While looking for images for Doug's Thursday Task I came across a Deep Space Astro image I had started to process but never finished. If I recall correctly it was because of all of the "gunk" in the image. I had been only imaging up close and tight until then, and when I shot this one wider, I couldn't figure out what had gone wrong and why I had all of these yellow/white areas in the background.... having only been doing Deep Space for about 4 months at that point, all of my other ones had pretty uniform backgrounds, a bunch of stars and then black space... So this one looking like it was space noise on steroids, I ended up stopping working on it, because I didn't know how to get rid of it....
Silly me... sometimes we can't see the forest through the trees... little did I realize that space noise areas was actually the Milky Way... it sounds so dumb to say that now, but all I can do is laugh. I recall later in the year seeing some wider DSO's others had captured and how it showed the Milky Way too... well a light bulb went off.... a cow bell started ringing... I think I heard a choir singing too...
That space noise I was trying to get rid of, was actually the Milky Way and I now wanted it. Crazy...
But instead of going back to this image, on a few of my next DSO capturing sessions, I then made a point to capture and process some wider Astro with the Milky Way in it.
So all that to say, as I stumbled across this image today, I figured I better finish it.
