It was the rays

Recently in the Bisti Badlands area as I was hiking in for sunrise I was watching the skies as things were rapidly changing. I saw these anti-crepuscular rays going off. I have learned to shoot when you see something special because you never know how long it will last. So I stopped at this overview to set up quick. I thought it was cool to be able to look over the area. By the time I did get down into the middle of it, the rays were gone.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Hey Jim, all I have ever seen of Bisti is the various hoodoos and the wing, this is the first time I have seen an overall view of the area and I am surprised we don't see more, this is gorgeous country and those rays take it to the next level. Very good.

So that is what those rays are called, I love those & what a gorgeous shot you did, I would really like to go exploring there. I had captured these one morning in my backyard....sorry Jim...backyard again LOL. Are these rays the same thing? I have to google anti-crepuscular

Ahhh very cool. I am always learning something in this group of fantastic photographers. Just googled & found that these are anti-crepuscular as you said...crepuscular are the ones that come down from the gaps in clouds. Again awesome image there!

Hey Darcy, Crepuscular rays isn't that the rays come down from the cloud, Crepuscular means the rays are coming from the sun, the Anti in Anti-Crepuscular means that it's opposite the sun.

Hey Ben, I am glad you like this.

This area is actually not Bisti, but an area south of Bisti. But I do have a few similar shots from Bisti itself. I agree, it's nice sometimes to see a whole area, it's nice to put things in perspective.

Beautiful country, great image Jim! :) Would you consider a more panoramic crop, perhaps, just to get rid of a bit of the sky and concentrate the view more on the beautiful badlands? Just a thought of course :) Best,

Vieri
