Ice Lake Basin in LE

This is from Ice Lakes Basin in Colorado, I backpacked up in there with @Alisa this last summer. Over the last few years I have been shooting more of the high altitude locations in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. I have spent time up at Blue Lakes, and decided to go explore Ice Lakes Basin this last summer. Now I had found Blue Lakes to be an awesome place for wildflowers, but Ice Lakes Basin is like Blue Lakes but on steroids. It's just crazy with wildflowers. I already have plans to backpack up in there again this next summer.

So this is a Long Exposure (LE) shot. it was an almost 3 minute shot if I remember correctly. It's a single exposure except for a couple of the flowers that moved during the shot, I had also taken a couple of faster shutter speed shots to freeze the flowers just in case. The wind was fortunately not blowing much, just an occasional slight breeze, but it was still enough to soften a couple of the flowers.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

I am liking the effect you got with the long exposure for the clouds in this scene. That plus the soft aqua waters is pretty nice. The flowers don't really seem like the primary subject here since the peak and the clouds kind of overwhelm their presence.

Jim, that is a very beautiful image. The tones and colors are perfect, rich, yet subtle. Great idea on "freezing" the flowers. This is one of my favorites of yours. I'd hang that in a minute. I just might make a run there. I'll contact you some time about wildflower timing. August?

Thanks Alan!

There were flowers alongside the lake but the displays were smaller, so I agree they are not the primary subject here, just a bottom anchor.

You definitely have to view this one big to appreciate the flowers, but the light and composition are beautiful. The long exposure nicely smooths out the lake and creates a wonderful abstract reflection. Ice Lake Basin is one of my favorite places in the San Juans. This brings back great memories!

I am really liking your ice lake series, sounds like a place I would love to be. This one is very nice, and a good example of the LE style.
