Ice Lake Basin in B&W

I am finally getting to processing some of my Ice Lake Basin photos from this last summer. Ice Lakes Basin is an area of some high altitude lakes that in the summer have just an out of this world wildflower display that can be contrasted with beautiful turquoise green colored waters. It's a 4 or 5 mile hike up into here all uphill. It wasn't easy backpacking into there, but it was worth it.

So I was minding my own business processing this in color as it's got lot's of great color in it, when the stormy skies of the incoming huge rain storm really made an impression on me, and the wild thought of that this might look good in B&W to emphasize the incoming storm conditions took hold. I am not sure what happened after that, before I knew it I was now processing in B&W...

This is a great B&W Jim, the clouds really make it, but I do want to see those flowers in color.

I'm with Ben on wanting to see colored flowers but the B&W does seem to emphasize the stormy skies and in this case almost make it look like they are radiating out from the peak. Neat touch.

Very nice. I don't know what color the flowers are but wonder if a different filtration (green or blue) on them then blend that with the rest of the picture could bring out the flowers even more.

Thanks Jim, I am glad you liked it.

And thanks for the idea, I will definitely try that.

I like this, but after seeing the color version, which I really like, this feels over contrasty. If you'd only shown this..... :)

This is nice but I think I like the color better.

Sometimes it’s nice to examine a scene without the distraction of color. I like the fine details, tones and excellent depth here.
