I used to get deer...

All the endless development here is driving everything away. Putting up fences... I used to get deer & foxes in my back yard, but now all that's left are these...
Never got any pictures before because they usually dive away... So there's that...

Kind of silly but their days are numbered too! I've had an open irrigation creek behind my back yard for years and they're putting a big pipe in instead...
The frogs will be wiped out...

No one would recognize Moab these days from the olden days... Too much greed and development. Consider that there is a 600 unit housing development going in down Kane Creek... Just one of many. And still the city and county are scheming to figure out how to bring more and more people here for the money...

Last time I went into Moab was in 2018 and I didn't like what I saw at all. Not sure I really want to see how much farther downhill things have gone.

I have fond memories of renting mountain bikes from Rim Cyclery back in the late 1980's and riding to Kane Creek road. My wife and I spent the day exploring along that road and never saw another soul all day long until we brought the bikes back. We had left our road bikes at Rim Cyclery and then rode our own bikes back to a small campground in the middle of town where we had parked our VW bus. There were only 2 other parties in the campground. We hated wandering into the shops along the main road because it was usually a shopkeeper watching TV hoping a customer would walk into their shop. A far cry from what I saw in more recent years to say the least.

Green River is now my preferred resupply town in the area. It's much quieter and unpretentious. Has a decent grocery store with a surprisingly good produce section. A few decent mom and pop restaurants. No traffic noise.

If you want a good read about what happened (is happening) to Moab, pick up a copy of Jim Stiles' "Brave New West:Morphing Moab at the Speed of Greed". Stiles is the guy behind the Canyon Country Zephyr, everyone's favorite alternative newspaper. "All the news that causes fits"

Glad you got these! Very nice!

And it's very sad to see what has happened Moab. I go through there maybe once a year now. Typically off season, I fill up at the Maverick on the north side of town and turn around to head up into Arches.

sorry to hear your wildlife is disappearing. development sprawl sucks. we still get quite a few foxes around here, but they're urban foxes. more likely to be seen digging in someone's trash than hunting.

I admit, I still go in mid-winter. Mostly out of habit. That's the closest to the old Moab as it gets, I suppose. Do you remember when the gas line north of Moab melted 191? The highway was wavy for a time after that but now it's impossible to tell where it was.

Isn't a bunch of the Kane Creek development for low income working locals? Though it displaced a number of the same..........
