Huntington Beach Pier with Jim Fox

So...I got to meet Jim this evening. As I've stated in other places online, my impression of Jim is just as he is on the forum...super nice and extremely helpful. I would ask him questions, and he'd stop and miss out on some good light to genuinely help me. He's very outgoing too. I think he met and shook 10+ photogs hands that were also out there.

Thanks Jim.

So...here is a pic I got from this evening. That's Jim and his wife on the top right of the pier. lol....ok...perhaps not. :p

* Edit * I know it's not a "real" landscape photo since the pier and all, but it doesn't really fit in the "Cityscape" forum either.

Very nice Ryan, and... landscape or cityscape doesn't matter to me when a photo is good ;)

Hey Ryan,

We did pretty good for our first FocalWorld Meet up, even with only about 5 minutes of warning! :)

It was great to meet you in person, and thank you for all of your kind words. I am sure we will be having more meetings with more of us as we continue to grow.

This is a really awesome shot! I like that twilight glow along with the lights from the pier being on. I can't believe you have already processed one! I just got mine downloaded to my computer not long ago. Hopefully tomorrow I will pick one out to process.

As for where this belongs, if you had posted this in the City Forum, I would have moved it here. :) Seascapes all belong in the Landscape forum. They are landscapes even if they do contain some manmade objects like this pier, or a lighthouse, etc.. The exception would be if it was in a harbor setting where the scene was full of docks with boats, that could probably go into the City forum. But by and large, any Seascape will most likely belong in the Landscape forum.

Thanks again for setting up this Meet Up, I hope we see more people doing the same as it was a lot of fun!

Nice shot, Ryan. I like the colour palette here and totally agree that this is a landscape picture! Meet-ups as a result of a forum are one of their great attractions. Many friendships are established behind a camera and the exchange of views and ideas is invaluable to all!

I love the reflections in the shallow waters. The color in the skies and the pier lights blend nicely here.

Ryan,
Nice image, I like the comp and also your shutter speed to catch the water movement. Looks like you could make some very interesting LE abstract type images under this pier. Sounds like you guys had a nice time.
Regards,
Dean

Thanks all for the kind words on the image. I have a few other compositions from last night I'll work on this weekend.

I've always been impatient with my imaging. I so badly want to see if i've "microimproved" from my last outing in both camera work and post processing.

One thing that bothered me during processing, and still does, is that pier leg near the right edge of the frame that looks crooked. It actually is kind of crooked, but it still bothers me.

Use the warp tool. You can selectively straighten most anything with that.

The light is great and all, but the water movement at the bottom of the frame really makes this for me. Nice job!

Hi Ryan,

Beyond the nice water movement and colors, the attention to detail on separating the pier's columns is very well done.
