Fulvio BW

When I photograph people I try to catch their soul not their smile or attractive features, when I showed this shot to the subject's brothers they thought it was to make fun of him because he, Fulvio, has gone through a lot in life and fights depression since years, when I showed it to Fulvio, on the other hand, he understood my intent and kind of liked the picture because it carries a message...

An intense portrait with the eyes trying to smile, but not quite getting there. I wish this man happiness and peace.

I can't imagine why anyone would think this is making fun. It's both nicely executed and shows me a man with some experience.

You know, this where I live is a very small place, two villages with a total of less than 15k human beings, at our age, Fulvio's and mine being a couple years apart, everybody knows everybody and people have the habit to pass judgments rather than opinions and as such that smile gets often misunderstood for something else but my goal was of him to tell me what he sees in that picture and once the reply matched my idea behind the image I felt satisfied, it's not just about capturing the moment, keeping the eyes sharp bla bla bla but it's about to dig in the soul of the person in front of your lens and, believe you me, this was shot on the fly with the not-that-fast-to-focus Fuji X-Pro1, it was meant to be captured and I do really appreciate your comment.

Will add one more of another similar subject later on
