Fruit flies on a peach.

I had cut into a peach and it was not quite ripe so I left it on the counter. Soon the fruit flies, attracted to the wound in the peach skin started swarming the area. I set up my macro lens on a tripod with the peach at the edge of the counter. With this position I could get really close and when a fly moved through the scene I could get a shot. I tried some focus stacking but could only get a three image stack on the one closeup. The flies were pretty active so it was hard to do a stack.

This is a three image stack... After three images the fly had moved so the stack was messed up.

Fruit flies on a piece of fruit - living up to their name. You did well to catch these shots with how often they move about.

Now where's my swatter?
