Frozen Greeter

As frigid temperatures are now behind us (as of this evening), I headed up to the South Cumberland State Park this weekend to capture some frozen falls. I was in for a treat. They were all almost completely frozen solid. I was shooting film yesterday (mainly tmax 100 but some color c-41 as well) and wanted to revisit this falls this morning as the crowds were crazy yesterday so brought along my digi camera. Had the place to myself for a bit and enjoyed myself. I don't have any favorites yet, will probably have to sit on this awhile but I figured I would post a few. Hard to judge scale when shooting a super wide so for those whom aren't familiar, Greeter Falls is approximately 80' in height. All shot with 5dmkii, 17-40L w/ CPL/

Still plenty more to work my way through and several other falls that I will post in the next few days.

Edit to add: As I was scaling the side of the cliff after shooting from the side, a huge piece of the ice formation broke loose and crashed down. Gave me quite a start!

Wow - great place to play and some nice teasers. I can see about a thousand (honest) mini scenes with longer lenses lurking in that playground.

I am ready for more :D

Thank you! I am kicking myself for not bringing but one lens with me. I was doing a lot of hiking, catching a lot of different falls and opted for old trustworthy (17-40). 24-105 was sitting in the passenger seat of the truck on the film body. Almost too much for my senses (overwhelmed) and not really sure what I wanted to capture. I have been to this spot countless times but never frozen. Once partially and covered in snow.

I could hang out and shoot in a place like that until I either ran out of memory card space/batteries or couldn't shoot with frozen fingers any more.

Freezing temperatures are one of the few occasions where water no longer obeys gravity :)

Hey John, I agree so many possibilities there! Of what you captured, they are all good of course, but #4 really jumps out at me.
