Fourth of July over Vancouver, Washington

A short video of some fireworks over the NW area of Vancouver. Not much of a videographer so this is more than a little rough around the edges. This was a bit of an experiment since I was a bit frustrated trying to shoot stills last year and I thought video might do a better job of capturing the displays. There were quite a few less participants in the immediate vicinity of my house this year but as it turns out it was easier to see the aerial displays from about a block or two away anyway.

I played around with zoom during the video which is nice to come in closer to parts of the overall view but video quality pretty much falls off a cliff compared to shooting at normal 24mm. I need to do some homework on how to better do video with my drone if I ever do much more of this.

The video is comprised of around 3 minutes worth of selected clips from a single battery flight roughly 25 minutes in duration.

Hey Alan. I think overall the video turned out great. What resolution did you shoot at?

I think video is defintely better then a Timelapse of 2 or 3 seconds. In the past, that's all I was capable of. This year I shot one camera that way, and then my Z8 had my 14mm f1.4 lens on, and wide open I was finally able to capture some quality video.

Yours turned out great. Trying to maintain the frame rate when it gets dark is the hardest challenge I think. Your letting the background go black is smart as any noise there might be gets lost in the black.

So overall your video was great. Your music choice I didn't like at first, but I tried to give it a chance. But after about 45 seconds I was getting a headache from it. It's probably a popular rock or metal song that I should know, but I don't, I was never into that. All that to say... for myself, the video was awesome, I just wish you had used some patriotic music to go along with it. I might be in the minority with that.

Thanks Jim - I honestly left all of the video settings on my drone at their defaults. From what I have seen from others with this drone there is a lot that can be done with it for much better video work if you take the time to RTFM and practice. I did none of the above and discovered that I wish I had. I have 3 lenses/sensors and it felt like I was just using the 24mm as I am not even sure how to switch lenses with video. I have taken over 18,000 still photos with this drone but am a complete idiot with video

As for the music I didn't really like any of Movavi's offerings but knew I would get criticized if I didn't add at least something. That certainly wasn't something I would like to listen to all day.

Ha ha.... you are correct. If you hadn't added music at all, I would have dinged that as well... o_O

I don't recall that music from Movavi, which version are you using?

As for music, most of mine is from YouTube now. You probably know, but in the YouTube Studio, you can access a huge library of Music to use in your video's as well.

What's RTFM? That's escaping me.

I should look around more in youTubz for music. I am on Movavi 24 as of a couple of days ago. RTFM is an ancient one from the tech sector that is an acronym for Read The Freaking Manual.

These are allowed in the neighborhood? Being so close to the houses esp. when it is hot and things are dry scares me.

Nice show btw.

Thanks - fully agree with the fire hazard. Several of these subdivisions weren't here when we first moved here in 1998 and some of these pyromaniacs would fire them off over the grassy (and usually dry) fields directly behind my house. We would wake up in the morning and find the debris from the aerial displays all over our yard and roof. That used to scare the crap out of me every year. I was glad when they built out the subdivisions around me which is not my usual attitude about more rooftops.

There are restrictions for these types of fireworks inside of the Vancouver City limits and all of the Portland metro area but unincorporated Clark County has no useful limitations. I live in the unincorporated county outside of Vancouver City limits. In the first part of the video you can see a fire truck heading down the street lights ablaze.
