Fall or Winter?

Or Both?

There was a snow storm that hit during fall colors that made for some cool conditions in the Eastern Sierra a few years ago. This is from Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierra, not shot from the common area at the outlet but from along the trail that goes around the lake.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Progression of light, it started with almost a pinpoint of color on the peak

To where it then spread out onto that whole cloud pouring out from the peak

Extraordinary images, Jim. There's no way to beat that combination of color, reflection, snow and clouds.

Thats is a fine pair of images Jim. I like the color and reflection in the second which tugs it slightly ahead of the first.

I recall setting around a campfire at age 14 listening to a ranger tell us how the lake got it's name. Now all I remember is that the story was told, but not the details.

A weatherman in Salt Lake City years ago had a set of half seasons that would make this one a good example of Finter. Early season snow is always a delightful color combo. To get nice clouds along with that? Wow.

Do you bring clouds with you on your photo treks? I go places and get bare skies and you always have nice colorful ones......

Thanks so much Alan.

One of my friends (Deb) has said that I have a Lucky Horseshoe up my rear. An unpleasant thought for sure!

I think one of my strengths is flexibility and watching the weather. When I am out shooting, I will have a list of places I want to shoot in my head from an area, but I go where the weather leads. I could teach a Photo Yoga class I am so flexible. :) Going to Convict Lake was no exception, I juggled my days of going here to line up with a forecast of clouds. I switched locations, I had to drive a few extra miles to alternate locations, but in the end it's worth it when the clouds appear. :)

Beautiful Jim. I love the beginning of the glow in the first and it's nice to see its progress in the second. Better to always have a few "good" clouds with you rather than nothing but clouds - like someone I know. :p
