Fall is coming

A couple of flowers from my garden in the last week or so.

Milkweed... no Monarchs yet.

One of my successful attempts to have native prairie plants in my garden.

Sweet - I have never seen one of these cone flowers before. That cone is quite remarkable compared to what I am used to seeing.

Nice shots, Trent. I planted milkweed seeds this summer for the first time in my life. No experience whatsoever with them. Once they sprouted and became seedlings, I watered them every day and put the pot in a very sunny spot.

Soon I noticed leaves develop yellow and white spots. Then I noticed webs and spider mites. The leaves started falling off.

So I learned that milkweed needs partial morning sunlight and sparse watering. After moving the pot and watering less, and using mite repellent, the plant has regrown leaves and is much happier.

Yes Jim.. We do get Monarchs here on their way to Mexico. One of my friends had one in his yard a few weeks ago.

Very nice, Trent. When I lived in the Midwest, I had a garden of prairie plants. My favorite was butterfly weed.

Thanks Douglas.. Is there another name for butterfly weed? It might be in our area under another name.
