Fall in the Gorge - Mirror Lake

I hiked into the part of Rooster Rock State Park that lies south of the freeway yesterday. This part of the park is surprisingly pristine given how close it is to the metro area and at least during this time of year is only accessible by foot so I pretty much had the place to myself. Turns out it has some of the best fall leaf displays I have ever seen in the Gorge. This is the first of many views I shot yesterday. This is a 2 panel panorama shot from 20' above Mirror Lake using a 24mm lens. The drone was less than 50' away from me and within my sight between the vegetation but I had no view of this scene beyond what I could see on the controller screen. As always click through for a more detailed view.

Nice that the state park lets you fly. Sadly not many do.

nice pano
Thanks Tim - I hear you on park flight restrictions. Washington State does not allow drones.

Happily Oregon only has a few parks where you can't fly and I agree with not flying at those locations anyway. I chatted with some of the park employees who were doing some maintenance work while I was getting ready to launch who were enthusiastic about drones. They use drones for mapping the parks and various types of vegetation surveys. The good news for drone pilots is that the new head of the Oregon Department of Aviation (Kenji Sugahara) is also the president of the Drone Service Providers Association and is on the board in charge of drone access in the parks.

Great shot Alan, the yellows and greens in your shot are rich and painterly looking! ;)

Very cool Alan. It's a great view. And it's fun when the drone opens up hidden areas to us.
Thanks Jim - one of many great views down there. We have always been able to see this place from the viewpoint at Crown Point looking down but I have never been down in it before. I will definitely be going back. This is 1/2 hour from my house and I have an annual day use pass for Oregon Parks.
