Elk in Canmore

I took my family to Canmore/Banff this last January (I swear they wanted to go!) and even though it was winter I was hoping they'd get to see some wildlife. We hadn't had much luck until this morning. My daughter and I took a drive into town to get some pastries from the bakery and when we got back to our hotel there was a herd of elk in the parking lot. I grabbed my camera and eventually earned myself a stare down from the young bull.

That town is crazy, I recall seeing elk from my motel window. Not a place I want to drive to in winter however.

I was surprised how easy it was to get around in the winter. Definitely worth visiting. Dang cold though...

I've seen them up outside Jasper in the winter when they are really enhanced against the snow. This is a really cool shot and he's clear who's boss all right!
