Earth meets sky

This the Goosenecks State Park in Utah. The clouds were just perfect for mid-day, but the wind was oppressive. I think the photo would have more impact if it were shot just a little bit closer to the rim, but I was not going to risk losing my gear to the gusty winds. Made with an 850nm converted Nikon.

Very good Michael! That's one of my favorite places to go. It's amazing how few people are there compared to other similar locations.

Getting closer to the edge might have helped, but I agree it's best to be safe.

This works quite well for B&W viewing. I have stopped by this place on many occasions but have never shot it with IR and quite honestly never tried converting to B&W. You are making me rethink that with this image.

It's a spectacular view, only let down by being so exposed to the elements. On a clear day with warm air temps, people there were retreating into their cars to get out of the high winds. Probably a good place for astro photos IF the winds subside after dark.

There's not much variety of color in the landscape here, unless you happen to be there at sunrise or sunset. So mid day is good for B+W. The blustery conditions on the day I went were far from ideal, despite the great clouds. I observed several car loads of visitors pull in, get out of their vehicles for a few moments, then quickly get back in and drive out of the park. The winds were a total buzzkill.
