Early Rhododendrons

We have a lot of varieties of rhododendrons in the Pacific NW and the earliest of them are starting their blooms now. This is from a neighbor's yard while on a walk a couple of hours ago. The plant itself wasn't in the best shape and the leaves were a downright shade of ugly but the flowers are quite a splashy show of color.

A beautiful flower.
Thanks - I wish the rest of the plant looked as good as the blooms.

Very typical Rhododendron color for the PNW. The spring is definitely in the air.
I mostly saw crocus and daffodils out today so this little bush really stuck out.

Beautiful!!
Thanks Alisa

Very colorful Alan. I didn’t know there was so many varieties of Rhodies.
Thanks Jim. People are quite serious about their rhododendrons west of the Cascades. There are a tons of different variants that will be blooming in stages through June. The Portland Japanese Garden has at least a dozen different varieties ranging from little shrubs to small trees.
