Looks like a depression era photo. I can imagion John Steinbeck describing this scene.

Neat idea - but if these were dust bowl ruins wouldn't they look newer if the image was actually taken in the '30's? I do like your B&W processing here - it distinctly looks like an old print.
There are more than a handful of dwellings that were abandoned long before the true dust bowl migrations just due to the fact that people in the late 1800's tried to settle in places that weren't suited for farming. Utah is covered with farm buildings in marginal environments that were in ruins by the 30's.
