Dubrovnik Old Town

Here are three views of the Old Town in Dubrovnik - coincidentally (I didn't plan it this way) at sunrise, midday and sunset. As always, any thoughts are welcome.

1) Sunrise across the bay taken from the balcony of our lodging

2) Looking south at the city from Fort Lovrijenac at mid-day

3) Sunset from the mountain above the city

Looks well fortified. A town with a pretty deep history according to what I can dig up online about it. Very interesting place. The view from up high gives a nice perspective but the second image is the one that grabs my attention with the neat light on the water.

Sounds like it took quite a beating in 1991 by the Yugoslavian Army but they patched it back up since then. Were the newly restored parts of the town visibly distinct from the legacy architecture?

From what I had read, many of the roofs had taken the brunt of the damage - which is one reason why they look uniformly pretty good now.

So cool Kyle. What a super neat city. It looks really cool how that wall extends around the city. That has to have made for good medieval defense. I wonder if the waters rise how well that would serve to protect the city as well then.

Not sure I can pick a favorite here. I do like #2 as Alan did as well. It's cool with the way the city rises up on the right as the bluffs raise up. But I do also like #1 how it makes it look like an island, though I wish that OOF island in the background wasn't in it. The top down view is awesome as it really helps to put it in perspective how the city is completely walled in.

I am trying to look at #1 as you said you shot it from your balcony it's location in #3, and also would that make your lodging to the right or left of the city as shot in #3. But I haven't figured it out yet.

We stayed about a 15 minute walk south of the old town. Our place is in the background of #2 on the hill across the water. It would be left of the city in #3.
