Studio shots are really fun to do because they force you to consider all aspects of the picture that you're attempting to achieve. Since you generally have total control of the situation (to a point) you sometimes have to think outside the box to get the look you want. Frustrating at times, rewarding at others. I was lucky with this one and got what I was looking for pretty quickly.

C&C encouraged!

Wow - are you doing this with a rapid fire shutter/flash or simply a single shot where you are trying to time a microsecond?

I have seen this sort of frame captured as a part of very rapid fire laboratory level photo systems but not out of one of our DSLR camera bodies. The lab guys can select a neat frame out a thousand or so shots within a single second and that doesn't have a lot in common with the cameras most of us carry.

Great shot. Do you use a triggering device on your shutter or, like me, just shoot till you catch it? Regardless, good stuff.

Single shot! I had a flash backlighting and a second at the angle that you see the shadow. Just used a dropper that I had into a small plate of water. Took 17 pics to get the look I wanted.

Thanks Mike! I've got a hotshoe transmitter for the two flashes that were manually fired - didn't bother with a trigger or anything here (I'd have to find it lol).

Shoot until I catch it!

This sounds like something fun I would like to try some time! I have seen these Drops or Drips shots before and always thought they were cool. This one of yours is no exception, it's really great.

One thing I did see is the shadow going to the upper left. Is that intentional? Or is that something you would try to get rid of if you did this again?

Thanks Jim! It was really not hard to accomplish and can be pretty fun to set up.

The shadow was not intended while shooting but I dug it after seeing it and left it in.
