Dropping in for a Visit

I was panning my camera shooting some Canada geese circling one of the ponds in Salmon Creek yesterday and got photobombed by Mt. Hood in the distance. I decided that made a great backdrop as a shot to work up. Turned out to be better than their splashdown in the pond since they ended up behind some trees as they finally landed. The backdrop isn't in perfect focus as my autofocus was tracking the geese and I was panning the camera following their flight at a 420mm focal length.

C&C always welcome.

those pesky mountains are always popping up in your background. we don't have that issue on the east coast as we've done away with most of them.

i think the mountain makes a great background for the birds.

Thanks Beth - yeah those mountains can be pesky about popping up when you least expect it 😁 I was actually tracking the geese before they made the sweeping turn and Mt. Hood popped into view. I was at 800mm following the geese but pulled back to 420mm once I saw Hood as the backdrop.

And I thought it was the geese photobombing the Mountain View. Either way nice backdrop for the birds in flight.
Thanks - That would have been a lot less work since the mountain would have been in focus instead of the geese :) I did shoot Mt. Hood earlier in the visit with a more carefully framed portrait.

Super nice awareness Alan!

Mt Hood really adds to the image.
Thanks Jim - this turned out to be a common approach for waterfowl coming in to land in the ponds at Salmon Creek. By the time I left that day I had grabbed a couple of images like this one with geese and swans :)
