Well, after a little change in the setting I have much better luck, got this little LEOW in the air with good focus lock on the eye.

Quite the contrast in the flying position/aerodynamics from the GBH in Eric's post. You analogy to a WWII P-51 in flight fits quite well.

The P-51 Mustang is my favorite airplane, and you had my mouth watering to see your capture of it!
Well... this owl is perhaps better, because for me owls seem so rare, but I had to visually reset my brain.
Great focus, love the golden light behind it, and the motion blur with tracking the owl really creates an awesome feel. Congrats on such a great shot.
