Crown Point Vista House

The Crown Point Vista House is directly above Rooster Rock State Park's Mirror Lake and I decided to fly my drone up to just under 400' and grab a shot of the popular viewpoint. The Vista House is a historic structure built just after the original Historic Highway through the Gorge and was opened in 1918. Fortunately it's a well built stone structure since this can be one of windiest places in the Gorge with recorded winds in excess of 100mph. At 400' taking this image the Vista House is another 380' above the camera.

Single frame at 166mm.

C&C always welcome.

Hey Alan, now that's a super cool view of that house.

Now, the image has an interesting look to it, not a look I have seen you present before. It's almost HDR in it's feel, but I am only using that as a term in how it looks. This looks like it could be a painting rather then a photo even. It feels very bright but without being overexposed. I guess.... it's maybe a lack of contrast?

Anyway, I like the look, it's just different. Was it a purposeful choice on your part? What did you do different?

Thanks Jim - I pushed this a bit in Photolab 8 since the original light had some super deep shadows from the light angle.

Neat view Alan. I like the soft look to this image. I wonder (based on my own experience as well) that if it is combination of the 166mm lens combined with how stable the gimbal is as well as how long one lets the drone however before taking the image.

Thanks Jameel - my biggest issue was hazy skies and the dark shadows of the Gorge cliff faces. Photolab 8 almost did too good of a job with the shadow recovery.

Another new point of view from a very popular photo spot in the gorge. Well done, again!
Thanks Michael - Crown Point is one of the few places where you can get a view of the south part of Rooster Rock Park. The only other good view (beside up in the air with a drone) is the bridge at Shepperds Dell.
