Cold Creek Cascades

Nice starting point. This might be just a little on the long side for this stream.

You might want to do a lot of bracketing with an array of shutter speeds until you get used to what water flows look like at various speeds. I usually end up somewhere between 1/5 sec. and 1 second with the speed of the water flow itself being the biggest variable. Review your shots as you take them to refine what work best for any given scene and what suits your mood for the image. Too long a shutter speed is much more forgiving than too short where the water flow gets choppy and can distract the viewer.

Nice find and not at all what I expect around Las vegas. I agree with Alan with regards to shutter speed. But sometimes a very slow shutter can create artistic effects if you want them. Silky water was a craze for a while but after a while viewers tired of them like anything else.

Hey Darcy,

This is a good job at a first attempt!

I agree with Alan, my go to shutter speed is always 1/5th of a sec. now I can sometimes go faster or slower, it just depends on the water.
