After a week of experimenting with various methods for shooting R5 time lapse videos, I found that using aperture priority with auto iso works best. This video was shot using this mode.
Both manual and shutter priority modes run out of freedom to increase exposure too soon and drive ISO too high. I have auto iso movie mode limited to 3200. I also have high iso NR set to high.
Using aperture priority and starting at f5.6 typically sets the start of sunset shutter somewhere around 1/640 and iso at 100. The default slowest shutter in movie mode is 1/30, but this can be changed to 1/8. This gives the video lots of room for exposure adjustments before the iso needs to be above 3200. I would like to set iso shutoff to 2000, but the cut offs are 1600 followed by 3200. I figure I can always cut off the last part of the video if it has too much noise.
In this case I did not cut any video. In Photoshop I used the camera raw filter to add about 7% nr and 7% color noise.
Looks much better in 4K, right now Youtube is only showing 1080p
