Chicago Skyline Sunset

This might as well be my introduction post...a big thank you to Jim for inviting me to join here.
I work in a wide variety of photographic genres, one that I enjoy a lot is Cityscapes and Architecture.
This is from a trip this year to Chicago back in February. This was from the second night in town, it was cold but not freezing...but worth it.

Hey Travis,

Welcome to FocalWorld! I am really glad you decided to participate here, you will be a great asset!

This is a really nice looking skyline shot. I have been to Chicago in the winter and distinctly remember the shoreline being frozen with crazy looking ice.

Thanks Jim. It was really cold, but sunrise the morning before was even colder...there was still ice pack on the water...any skin exposed turned red and hurt the rest of the day.

This was the shot the first morning...

The glow on the buildings is great! The B+W might be even better with that ice it has.
Thanks Dan. That glow was something else in person, for the longest time we thought we were not going to get much color...and then it just popped!

I like the B&W one too for that ice...very different images, shot barely 36 hours apart...

Wow Travis! I really like that B&W shot. The ice is really crazy. It has a feel like those methane bubbles up in the lakes in Banff in the winter.

This is really nice!

Thanks Jim. The B&W is a favorite from the trip, it was a complete surprise too...I had no idea the lake would still be frozen like that...the next day it was all gone. Those methane bubbles are on my bucket list...have been for a long time.

I like the B&W better than the first one.
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you like that one.

Very nice and great color on the first image. The B&W is amazing.
Thanks! That ice was pretty wild...I tried a couple of Long Exposures hoping to make it work, but there was too much movement in the ice...but it was fun, even despite the cold.

Travis - Your patience with the cold really paid off! This is a sweet skyline image and the clouds really seal the deal for me.
its funny...in life, I am not very patient...but in photography, I can stand on a rocky outcropping for hours waiting for the right light...or freeze my butt off in the cold to get a shot...thanks for the kind words, much appreciated.

I really like both of these so very different takes on the city. the composition of the first gives it a sort of detached look which, along with the beauty and romance of the lights and glow, gives us the feel of the great city. The B+W has a gritty reality with the B+W processing and the beautiful scalloped ice.

Gritty is a good word fro the B&W...the wind had blown all the beach sand onto the ice overnight...but as I stood there, the wind was blowing it all back onto the beach, and in my face, in my gear...my pockets ended up full of it...

I really like the lighting in the color shot, but the b&w takes the cake! Really nicely done!
Thank you Barry.
