Pogonip and frost hoar on a late-season aspen leaf. Truckee, Ca. Dec., 2023.
Thanks, Douglas. It was a cold morning out there but very calm, beautiful.I love the patterns on that aspen leaf, Kurt.
Thanks again, Alan. Probably the most difficult image I've taken in months. I almost gave up......Well seen. You have to be quite focused on the small world around us to spot a subject like this.
Thanks, Jameel. It occurred to me but I decided to keep it to give perspective. The right side was a little tricky so I brought the contrast down a bit. Sometimes I like to keep a little of the details in there....Beautiful image Kurt. Have your tries cropping to lose the branch on the top and a bit on right side? I also like the blurred background as it makes the leaf pop.
Kurt, this is a nice simplistic view.Pogonip and frost hoar on a late-season aspen leaf. Truckee, Ca. Dec., 2023. View attachment 67566
Why was it so difficult, Kurt? Thanks again, Alan. Probably the most difficult image I've taken in months. I almost gave up......
Thank you. It was tough finding a clean background for this image.Kurt, this is a nice simplistic view.

Very limited depth of field, trying to line up the background, tricky filtered light that was constantly changing, around 10 degrees out in a north facing canyon. There was recent snow on some of the branches that would make it difficult to meter the scene correctly especially with sunlight coming through some distant Jeffery pines. Shooting at 400mm dx at close to the minimum focus distance...... Stuff like that! Why was it so difficult, Kurt?
