Beautiful image Kurt. Have your tries cropping to lose the branch on the top and a bit on right side? I also like the blurred background as it makes the leaf pop.

Thanks, Jameel. It occurred to me but I decided to keep it to give perspective. The right side was a little tricky so I brought the contrast down a bit. Sometimes I like to keep a little of the details in there....

This is so interesting Kurt. Love the frost on the leaf. I was thinking like Jameel I would clone out the branch in the upper right, but I saw your comment and I can also see that point. Cloning that branch out though really changes the feel of the image too.

Why was it so difficult, Kurt?
Very limited depth of field, trying to line up the background, tricky filtered light that was constantly changing, around 10 degrees out in a north facing canyon. There was recent snow on some of the branches that would make it difficult to meter the scene correctly especially with sunlight coming through some distant Jeffery pines. Shooting at 400mm dx at close to the minimum focus distance...... Stuff like that! :D
