We the landscape photographers avoid mid day light and for good reason. Sometimes though it works esp. with the colored rocks in southern UT. These are from the Capital Reef area.

Comments welcome.

Hi Jameel,

Yep, I think sometimes our mantra for desiring soft light gets twisted to where some think that's the only time we can shoot. Of course shooting during harsh light is not easy, and for the photographer who hasn't learned how to tame that harsh light, the results usually are not desirable. But by using a polarizer, and also careful processing, wonderful images can still be produced.

Your #1 shot especially is a really great shot, I like how you worked the sun into it and there is no evidence of harsh lighting coming off those rocks.

I refuse to put down my camera just because it isn't early morning or late in the day. It just means you take a different approach like you have done here. The first one is not an easy capture when you intentionally aim at the sun in the middle of the day but this one works well.
