So basically they are the same. A good copy of the old would be better than a bad new one.

The Sigma 24-105 is superior in all regards.
When they came out with their Art version, a couple years ago or so, I looked into it as the Canon always had known issues: soft perimeter and zoom creep two prominent ones. Also, Sigma indicated the Canon version was actually, if you did the math, at f/5.1, while sigma was a true f/4.
I made the switch and found the Sigma more sturdily built, yes-heavier, but also faster and quieter, with sharper corners and better, imho, color and contrast.
I never regretted the change!
