Cabbage White Butterfly

Wandering around my backyard looking for things to focus on and saw a white fluttering out of the corner of my eye. This little butterfly stopped on a strawberry leaf and I grabbed a shot.

Thanks Trent - the seed pod is from a Persian Violet. My wife planted these quite a number of years ago in a different part of the yard as a ground cover. As it turned out it covers the ground quite well in our area and is making a serious effort at covering all of the ground in our back yard.

Thanks Jim - the benefits of telephoto lenses. This was shot with a 100-400m lens at 400mm with 1.4x extender so 560mm. I was testing autofocus and IBIS for handheld work and have been getting some good results.

Thanks Jameel - ibis is one of the best reasons to set aside DSLRs for mirrorless. There is almost no way to set up a tripod for a shot like this before the butterfly is long gone.
