Brougham Castle plus more from Brough

This castle was built at the same time as Brough castle but the odd pronunciation in Cumbria gives us Brough pronounced Bruff and Brougham pronounced Broo am with the a being very short with the stress on the oo. The river is usually much higher and faster than this but as it flows out of a large Lake it will never dry up.

Back to Brough
St. Michael's church started in the 12thC but much improved/ restored since then.

I wandered around to get a view from the other side although it was into the sun so I may return for a morning shoot but this side is not as interesting as the other even with good light.

I love historical sites like these and the Brougham Castle site looks like one that would keep me entertained for quite a while. This is not to detract from the Brough Castle grounds - that looks like an equally interesting place to explore. I like both sides of that castle.

Love those clouds in #1. Is the church in #2 still in use? It looks like it.

#3 is my favorite view of Brough.

It's amazing how differently Brough and Brougham are pronounced considering how closely they are spelled.
