Bristlecone Pine on Mt Evans Road

There is a Bristlecone Groves on the Mt Evans Road (now called the Mt Blue Sky Road). Thereis a turn out and parking lot; and a ranger station with lots of details about the Bristlecone trees and area .

I am so used to Bristlecones being in the Bristlecone Forest outside of Bishop, that I know when I saw these years ago on Mt Evans it took me a back a bit as they felt out of place. Not sure why my mind had them only in California.

So thanks for the reminder Larry, you captured these nicely and I need to get back up to Mt Evans again.

You are right Alan and yet some of these trees live for 3 to 4,000 years!

Hi Jim there are some bristlecone on Mt Baldy not far from Los Angeles. I think the smog may a gotten them a few years ago, they were supposed to be nearly 4,000 years old. There is a Bristlecone Pine National scenic Area here in Colorado on Mt Bross. It in not marked on resent Colorado maps and when we went there several years ago there was not marked road and only a small parking area when we arrive and the sign the only said take only photographs and leave only foot prints!
