Bodes Nebula, M81 & M82.

I shot this last night at a 3/4 moon. The cigar galaxy (M82) color was visible in only a single photo. I am posting a cropped version and a larger version. In the larger version there are 9 galaxies that I can count

Shot for 3 hours (60, 3 minute exposures) at 400 ISO with my D600 and Stellarvue SV80 Access

Stellar frisbees :)

And this is from your backyard? I wouldn't be getting much sleep with toys/location like this.

Really cool Andrew! What cool looking galaxies. I agree with Alan, I wouldn't be getting any sleep if I could do that here.

I will be up there in January, I might need to see if I can squeeze in a visit to check out your setup. :)

Andrew,

Nice job! Getting those with the moon up makes for more of a challenge, contrast-wise. You did well here, but betting this same data with less moon might have cleaned up a little of the background noise perhaps. But good detail and you are looking to be technically dialed in on both your tracking/guiding and your focus, giving nice detail and round stars.

I got an M81 image from my last astro trip. Bigger than yours, but I was not totally happy with it. I think too that often showing something more in context with other galaxies nearby, can make for an equally or even more compelling image than just a closeup of one object.

Great job, keep up the good work. I wish I was getting out to image as often as you. I can tell you must be more cold-adapted than I have now become at my age :)

EDIT: Actually, rather than moon effects, I think you are seeing the difference between a cooled sensor as found on a dedicated astro camera and a DSLR. That ASI1600MM-cool (or many other cooled sensor cameras) would likely have given you a cleaner result.
