I know it's short notice and the timing is early, but I will be in the Bishop CA area Thursday thru Sunday. I'm mainly going to shoot the Steam Locomotive event at the Laws Railroad Museum all day Saturday and some of sunday. I'll be going to North Lake and higher elevations on Thursday and Friday Morning seeking early fall color, if there's any. Some of you know my Sportsmobile van and may find me near it. See ya.

Ben, It's the next logical step up from a pickup bed camper as you enjoy. But really, it only matters what the wife thinks!!

I know how this one works - I started out looking at the Sportmobile and by the time I had included the wife I ended up with this instead:

Definitely not as off road capable.

My wife can't do this anymore, so it's just me. But I am only to get out for 2 or 3 road trips a year so it really boils down to that fact that I can't justify it.

Hey Jeffrey,

I would love to join you, but I just got to Colorado today, so I probably won't be able to make it. :)

PS. Please update our Fall Color Report thread in the Landscape Forum with what you find. Including an iPhone shot for visual reference is real valuable.

The nice thing with the Sportsmobile is that it's 4x4. Though I have looked at something like what you have Alan too. I am just using and sleeping out of my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have it set up like Ben does, except my bed isn't elevated. But.... I really want to get something a bit bigger. So right now I am going between a Sportsmobile, a 4x4 pickup with a camper, or a 4x4 Sprinter Van fixed up in the back.

Decisions.... decisions...
