Great first post Beavens, and great IR a forum that needs some love. We have a few IR folks here so one more is really welcome. That's third is spectacular, but I really like the 4th as well, but all are good.

I never really cared for IR but your work sort of grew on me. Keep um coming.

Thanks Ben! I'm sure Scott would like a section dedicated to IR stuff.:D

Do you know how to add borders or captions to images in a thread?

Not built into the forum site, but its fairly easy do do in photoshop before posting, I even have an action for it, but I don't bother here. Maybe I will revisit my action.

I have already invited Scott, maybe if you did too?

I don't have a camera body for this (yet) but am always fascinated by the IR that I see. Esp. #3 and #4 with the interesting rendering of the skies/clouds.

Like Ben I add a frame and text in Photoshop via an action I set up before I save the file as a jpeg. I also covert the color profile in the same action to make things easier.

Hey Jeff,

Well I welcomed you in the Old Truck thread, I didn't realize you had posted this first, so I will welcome you again! :)

I agree with Ben, I am not a huge IR fan, but photos like these could soon convert me!

I like these all, but #3 and 5 really stand out for me. I like those white looking trees in 3 and how they stand out, and I just like the view in #5... well... as I look more maybe it's #4 I like 2nd best... :)

Your question about Frames was answered. That's something we will add as we have grown more and can afford a dedicated server as there is some graphic software that would be needed to run on the server but it can't be installed on a shared server as we are using now.

With the text, you can just describe the photo, the Insert that photo, Press Enter a couple of times then type the text to describe the next photo, and then insert that photo, etc...

Thanks for the info, Ben! Sure, I'll send Scott a message.

I'm glad you like them, Alan! IR is great because beyond giving a unique take on photography it allows you to shoot midday during usually harsh light. Since IR *loves* sunlights as a light source the general principle from what I understand is "the more the better". It's definitely make me much more open to heading out with the wife in the middle of the day vs. always sticking her with the sunrise/sunset times.

I scored a refurb Canon T6 that came bundled with a couple cheap lenses. Sold the lenses on Amazon and had the T6 converted to 665nm by Kolari Vision. All in all the cost was pretty damn reasonable and it's been super fun to play with!

Thanks for the double-welcome, Jim!:D

Hopefully I'll get another convert, ha. IR is really fun and it gets you thinking with another piece of your photographic brain. I can't wait to visit out West again with the IR body. The landscapes combined with how IR renders skies will make for some really pretty shots.

I appreciate the info on the posting particulars! Will the ability to embed EXIF data be included in the future as well?

these are excellent, I've been looking into infrared because of this post. It's expensive to get into if you want to do it right. I guess I better start saving for my new Camera so I can convert my 80D !!! :D

Welcome to Focal World, Jeff! I find #1 interesting as it seems pretty rare that grass is featured in an IR shot (usually trees). I like the movement of the grass combined with the clouds.

I've only played with the Singh-Ray IR filter as I'm not ready to give up my 7D, and carrying around yet another camera body+ lens is just not all that attractive. But I've had fun with it & like the midday opportunities it gives me.

Thanks Joe! It depends on what you consider expensive.:D A sensor conversion will run you somewhere between $250-350 or so, and the body all depends on what you've got or can get. I scooped up a refurb Canon T6, sold the kit lenses and I think my total bill for the IR body was roughly $500 or so. Not CHEAP, but not breaking the bank either. Currently I am debating on moving on to a FF or trying to find a good value UWA that the crop factor won't eat too much of.

Thanks Monika! I looooooooove how IR takes the greens and turns them into a super poppy white (depending on amount of light). When you combine that with some deep blacks you can really pump out some interesting and contrasty pics. I'm still on the fence as to how much I'm going to employ false color, but as a B&W nut I'm very much enjoying the IR experience!

From what I've read, using a filter is a good way to get a taste of IR without having to worry about a conversion. You just have to go through the hassle of pre-focusing and I want to say the effects are as pronounced. I've also seen dual-spectrum conversions as well, but you prolly like the warranty on your 7D.:D I hear ya on having multiple bodies! At least the T6 is mostly plastic and light as hell.;)

Yes, this is agreat set, each image giving something special to the viewer. If I had to pick, #3 and #4 are my favorites, but truly they are all excellent.

I also echo a previous comment about how sharp these look. I have a T2i that was modded for astrophotography, by replacing the LP filter with a clear glass filter (of the same thickness) by someone who is very experienced at that sort of mod. At the time, it was my dedicated astrophotography camera, but I have since moved on to use a dedicated cooled mono camera with a filter wheel for astro shooting, so I was thinking to try the T2i for infrared. So far though, I have only used a very inexpensive Polaroid 720nm filter on it, with less than sharp looking results. I think I have shot both the 24-105 f/4 L IS and the same 16-35 f/4 L IS that you used on these.

I actually had talked to Craig about it previously, but then I think I dropped the ball on trying some of his ideas to track down the sharpness issue.

Anyway, that Kolari Vision 665mm mod is killing it! Love this set. Between you and Craig, I guess I gotta get that T2i out and do some more playing around.
