Like last year, this will be a sort of photo journal of where I traveled through the year. It’s quite difficult to narrow down the thousands of shots I’ve taken to just 10. But these sum up my year nicely.
No. 1 - Death Valley National Park got some moisture in the beginning of 2024 and several temporary lakes, like this one in Panamint Valley, popped up. These attracted visitors from all over the world. It was a trip to see vehicles hauling kayaks while driving through the park. The shot below did not take a lot of effort to get; I just pulled over to the side of State Route 190, crouched a bit, and pressed the button. Fast forward to today, and this image won a contest hosted by Inyo County and is now the cover of their 2025 calendar.
No. 2 - After the lakes dried up in DVNP, flowers replaced them. This shot is from the other shoulder of SR 190, facing Telescope Peak.
No. 3 - More flowers from the Mojave Desert, this time from the Trona Pinnacles. I hadn't seen flowers here before.
No. 4 - I properly visited Canyonlands NP for the first time in the middle of a 10-day, 2400 mile motorcycle trip. Photos don’t do this place justice.
No. 5 - The hanging gardens in Page, AZ. This was also a part of the motorcycle trip. I had myself a sort of spiritual experience in this location, one that I’ll always remember.
No. 6 - The hike to Thousand Island Lake was my final big day hike of the summer. Due to taking a wrong turn, I ended up walking 19.5 miles.
No. 7 - I saw Moonlight Falls for myself for the first time in the high country just west of Bishop. This was another strenuous day hike.
No. 8 - During a random drive to Lone Pine to look at a motorcycle for sale, I stumbled upon a space ship in the Alabama Hills.
No. 9 - I visited Massachusetts for the first time with a trip to Provincetown and Boston. The Atlantic Ocean felt wonderful. I got sick in the middle of the trip though.
No. 10 - I arrived in Taiwan on December 28, making this my first visit to Asia and first trip abroad since 2017. This shot is of Sun Moon Lake at dawn. I returned a few days ago and have since then become sick. Worth it!
