I was searching for a photo the other day when I found a folder of some of my very first attempts to learn photography. It is from 2011. I had bought a couple of books, took my Canon point and shoot (with adjustable shutter and aperture) down to the beach and started practicing. I've made many trips to the beach since but this is one of the best beach skies I've ever had. Go figure.

The camera only shot jpg and back then I barely made any exposure adjustment with my free Canon software. So when I saw that beautiful sky I just had to try and see what I could do today with all my newly learned skills. lol.

So, I give you..."Chicken Salad". :)

You nailed it John! This is a really sweet shot. I love a brand new camera as much as the new person (evidenced by my D850) but a good photograph is so much more then just the camera it was taken on. Some of my favorite photos are still ones taken on my old 6mp D70.

Thanks Jim. It's really amazing to look at old photos and see what you can do with them today. Especially when they go back to your early days of learning.

The silhouette approach to this works quite well.
Thanks Alan. I've tried the silhouette approach on other photos but this one really seemed to beg for it. I only wish the sky were a little more orange than yellow. It did get orange a few minute later.

Great shot John.. It's not the equipment but rather your vision for the shot :)
