I seem to be drawn into the darkness in highlight preserved back lit forests. I shoot these more than any other image I think.

The first one looks like it could use just a slight nudge to bring out a little more detail in the shadows to make it flow a little better. I like the second one. The only thing missing is water droplets dripping from the moss

Nice work here with these, it's good to shoot what you are drawn to. I am thinking I like #2 the most here.
Is there a slight magenta cast in the shadows in #2? Hopefully not being too picky, and as I think through it. If you decrease the magenta globally the greens will turn more green and they seem to be very naturally colored as it is. In ACR, you can adjust the tint of the shadows. I have to do it with some of my night shots. You can decrease the magenta from just the shadows that way. Let me know if you haven't tried that or are not familiar with that adjustment, I know it took me years of using ACR before I stumbled across that adjustment late one night.

Grand photography you have in these. I have struggled with these scenes in the past, I like how you took these. What camera are you using if I may ask?
I really like the second image here, nicely seen and executed.

Eric, I used the Canon 7D on both of these W the 100 - 400 ver.1. Find an interesting object with light, then just worry about protecting the highlights. You can usually bring up the shadows.

The second one looks very interesting. I have personally struggled with forest scenes to find a good composition. You did well here.

Wonderful scenes, especially # 2. I too have had issues with magenta in my PNW dark scenes. Well done.

It is something I have spent a lot of time with. They are not a sure thing, but I do have some luck with them.
Yes the reds tend to go that direction in the blue light of shade. Thank you.
