Atlanta Skyline

As nice as the Atlanta skyline is, there are very few places to get good images of it. Our bridges all have suicide fences on them now, but the Jackson Street Bridge remains a destination for photographers wanting to capture the skyline. I shot these two images one year ago, and it was the best light I had seen there. On both images I spent many, many hours cleaning them up, removing all the light poles, signs, debris, construction signs and barrels...and blending in exposures to remove the cars in the sunset image. All told, each image has 20-30 hours of editing to get them to where they are. These are my two favorite images from this spot...that I have been to many times.

Wow, Travis, that's some job you did here. I know how hard it can be to remove urban clutter. That second one has an unreal look without cars. I like them both.

Thank you Ben. It was a lot of work. If I showed you an image of the before...it would make more sense...it was a lot of stuff. I really wanted that wildly unreal look of no cars for the second one...around here, we all know that some show called The Walking Dead is filmed here, and there is a scene shot at this overpass where there are no cars...so I am told, I don't watch the show.

Hey Travis,

These are both really super shots! I can only imagine the hard work that went into both of them.

I like #1 because the trails of lights are not broken. Maybe a small detail, but I like that the lights are solid streams.

And #2 has some really sweet clouds. The empty freeway does give an interesting look to it, and very surreal feel. And as to the Walking Dead, I have no clue either I don't listen to that kind of music.

A lot of work involved here, Travis. I like both scenes - the second is truly sureal - like after a nuclear holocaust! - whilst the first is lovely in it's light and the colours of the twilight lighting up time. Nice shot of the moon between buildings, too. I'm sure you have found it well worth all the efforst and have made a nice big print, particularly of the first. :)
