Aspens in Monochrome

In this grove of aspen, I liked the fogginess in the background contrasting with the stark white trunks, though the fogginess may have been my glasses after a steep hike up there.

And to the other side were these

I am scratching my head on the second one. Something isn't quite grabbing my attention with this almost high key contrast.

Yeah, I'm on the fence about #2, so I posted it for comments.

The second one might be a little easier to tweak in color. There is a batch of aspen leaves in the upper center that could make this more compelling if they stood out more to give the scene some depth. In B&W the stuff around them doesn't feel like it allows enough contrast to make that work.

#2 is my favorite of the two. Have you tried going negative with Clarity? Not too much, but just a bit to soften the background a bit more?

#1 I like except for the lower right corner. Everything looks soft with fog, but then in that corner is a sharp, well exposed branches. I would lose that.

I like that you went B&W, it reminds me to try that on some of mine too.
