If so, what do you think about it? I've read a lot of reviews and I'm very tempted, but it will be the most I've ever spent on a lens, so I'm reluctant. With the 1.4x It will replace a Tamron 150-600mm.
Anyone have the 100-400mm?

I assume you mean Canoon and the mk2. As a previous owner of the legendary 500f4, I can heartily reccomend it. It is only slightly larger than a 70-200 f2.8 IS and I have used it a lot for very dark concerts where the IS allowed me to shoot down to 1/40 second at over 300mm.
On the 5DSR, I can get bird details as good or better than I did with the 500F4 on a 22mp body. The big drawback of a slower 400 over a 500 f4, is that the faster lenses can isolat background better.
It is also a robust lens if you check out the tear down at lens rental, they were very impressed with the construction.

Ben, thanks for the review - I know many people do use that lens with an adapter on Sony cameras. I'm looking at the native Sony FE lens though.

Hi Jim, I bought it last winter. Good lense. Sharper than my Canon equivalent. I use it frequently. One negative, the variable aperture kicks in at a shorter focal length than the canon. Hasn’t been a problem for me though.

I have the lens too. I love it. I tried the Tamron but found my copy soft at the long end. The Sony 100-400 is excellent, sharp and renders nicely. Here''s one I recently took in Iceland. Note the horse is backlit and I find the lens performs wonderfully.

Thanks for the reviews Jim & Bob. I too finally went for it along with a 1.4x which hasn't come yet. So far it is working well in the yard, next out in the mountains.
I bought this lens about 6 months ago and originally shot it on my Sony a6500. It produced beautiful pictures. However, it did not alway fix my composition!
It now resides on my Sony a7iii, and is beautiful. I'm still learning how to use it, but glad I have it. Expensive? Yep!

How are you liking it. I have only rented it once, and loved it. I was shooting the Elk rut in the smokies with it, and my only complaint was that when paired with a 2x, f11 sure is dim for low light and forced me to raise the ISO into night sky photography settings.
