Another iconic scene gets "Instagrammed"

In this case Burney Falls is the next California victim according to this article in the L.A. Times. Not a waterfall I have visited but one I have seen quite a few images of on FocalWorld.

Can't say it will be on my list for a visit soon after reading that. Not a fan of traffic jams and lines waiting to take their selfies.

Yeah - it is pretty far off the beaten track so they don't have the facilities to handle crowds. Glad I've made my visits (including camping there once).

I still hope to get there someday. It's been on my list for years.

It's a bit sad that the Instagram crowd has a name, and it's derogatory. I know I have a hard time being polite when talking about those sheep, i meant people...

The article seemed to suggest that off season wouldn't have so many people around. Mostly a nice weather sort of thing.

This is an oppurtunity ! Not a curse... They should setup a selfie machine that tag to IG and emails...
build a wooden display showcasing some great photography of the area, some historical information,
Sell some sweaters and shirts and mugs..
Collect an email database for the state parks , educate some people , get some revenue.

I just visited Burney Falls within the past week. It was overcast, cold, and wet, although I arrived after the rain stopped. We were able to easily find a parking space and there wasn't a hoard of people at the base of the falls. There was no line to enter the park or buy a parking pass. Although, I can certainly see why it gets crowded there during better weather. It looked like you'd have the place to yourself if you visited early in the morning in the offseason.

I geotag all my images in my blog posts to help other landscape photographers. I rarely post on social media. But this article is forcing me to rethink my approach.
