One huge advantage with digital today is knowing when area's are too hot. It was the fun of film as I so fondly recall. Not sure about you, but I had pages and pages of notes with exposure settings for all of the different conditions where the light meter might get it messed up a bit.
I really like seeing your old IR B&W film in #1. You have me googling IR film even... I might dust off one of my old film cameras just to have fun with.
And yeah, your #2 image really shines with the way the foliage glows.
